Meet The Team
2024 Vision
We are working to ensure a fun-filled celebration for the Hines-Austin 2024 Family Reunion! The Hines-Austin Family Reunion website will continue to provide up-to-date information about the Family Reunion.
Greetings Hines/Austin Family,
I pray this communication finds you in the best of health and spirits. Please take a moment to read this important correspondence regarding the 2024 Hines/Austin Family Reunion.
It is my sincere hope that the upcoming reunion will be a major success! It will take everyone’s participation to achieve these goals.
I have three main objectives for the 2024 reunion:
-
Go Digital!
Let’s step into the new millennium! In the past, it was not uncommon to get a mailing announcing the upcoming reunion and to mail your payment in via check. Hopefully those days are behind us. I would like to go paperless and communicate via Facebook, email, text messaging, and via our family website. This will help to have more organization, reduce postage costs, and ultimately help us run more smoothly.
To help with this, I ask that you embrace the change and engage with the correspondence!
2. National Committee Model
My next goal is to expand the reach of the committee. Historically, one city will collectively volunteer to host the upcoming reunion. While this has been effective in the past, this is proving to be an outdated model. When I volunteered to host the 2024 reunion in Metro Atlanta, my fellow Atlantans were not thrilled at the thought because, in effect, the prevailing belief was that I volunteering them too. That’s not the case!
We would like the 2024 committee members to bring the fervor and enthusiasm that it will take to bring this reunion to fruition. With that being said, we want family members from all around the country to help us.
The National Committee Model should help us to: 1. Reduce burnout of all of the folks in one host city. 2. Eventually, give us the freedom to potentially host reunions in new and exciting locations where we no one in the family lives. We will have the freedom to expand our horizons!
Want to join the 2024 committee?!?!? If you have the passion and bandwidth to help out, please let me know! What are you good at? What would you like your contribution to be? No matter if you live in Detroit, Atlanta, Texas, Arizona, etc… we want and need your help!
3. Financial Freedom!
This is the third but most important goal. The Hines/Austin family is full of success stories, working professionals, and financially sound members. So why is it that every 2 years the host committee starts reunion planning at $0? We can absolutely do better. The family reunion should not mean financial burden for its organizers.
Therefore, my goal for this year is to achieve financial independence!!! To make it plain, we aim to collect, fundraise, and save enough money so that, for the first time ever, we can have a front-loaded and financed reunion “pot” to pass along to subsequent committees. If done correctly, this “pay it forward” model would mean that each subsequent committee can start off with the funds needed to hit the ground running when it’s their time to host. When they collect money, they will put it back in the pot to frontload the next reunion with the funds needed to start planning. It takes money to rent space, pay vendors, and buy food. We want to be empowered to be proactive in the process.
Thank you in advance for your support, understanding, and cooperation.
With Love,
Johnita Hubbard
